Dorchester, MA, March 19, 2024—

Today, MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving announced Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts (FNC) as one of the Yield Giving Open Call’s awardees working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States. FNC received $2 million, the largest gift in the organization’s 30-year history. 

FNC is a leading provider of free programs for children and families across Boston and training for providers across the Commonwealth. Headquartered in Dorchester, the organization empowers caregivers with the skills and resources they need to raise flourishing kids, with a focus on families experiencing poverty, first-generation immigrants, communities impacted by incarceration, and other systemic inequalities. 

In March 2023, Yield Giving launched an Open Call for community-led, community-focused organizations whose explicit purpose is to enable individuals and families to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being through foundational resources. 

The Open Call received 6,353 applications and initially planned for 250 awards of $1 million each. In light of the incredible work of these organizations, as judged by their peers and external panelists, the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount.

Emma Tobin, FNC’s Executive Director, believes that the gift has the power to transform FNC’s programs and amplify the organization’s voice. “For thirty years, FNC has excelled in engaging caregivers and children in Boston’s most marginalized communities and training service providers across the Commonwealth,” she says. “This incredible gift offers us the freedom to introduce Family Nurturing Center to a wider audience and make investments that deepen our impact.”
