Fathers Program Specialist

About the Organization

Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts (FNC) provides family strengthening, parenting education, and early childhood development programming in historically marginalized neighborhoods throughout the City of Boston, as well as training family service providers across the Commonwealth. FNC’s 60+ person team reflects the communities we serve, with approximately 30 percent of staff being graduates of an FNC program. Our work is rooted in relationship-based practice, equity, and community leadership.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Parenting Education Manager, the Fathers Program Specialist provides leadership and advanced support for the planning, implementation, expansion, and continuous improvement of FNC’s father engagement and fatherhood programming. The Specialist helps strengthen father-focused services across Massachusetts through high-quality facilitation, strong community partnerships, culturally responsive outreach, and evidence-informed practice.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Implementation

  • Support the design, coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of father-focused programs, groups, workshops, and events.
  • Assist with strategies to expand fatherhood programming across Massachusetts.
  • Ensure programming is delivered consistently, effectively, and in alignment with FNC’s mission, values, and practice standards.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate fatherhood groups, workshops, and events as assigned.
  • Support scheduling, logistics, materials preparation, participant communication, and overall program flow. .
  • Work evening hours as needed to support programming, which may be offered outside standard business hours.

Curriculum Support and Facilitation

  • Support implementation of the Nurturing Fathers’ Program™ as FNC’s primary fatherhood curriculum.
  • Prepare and adapt curriculum materials, under the direction of the Parenting Education Manager, to meet the needs of diverse participants and settings while maintaining curriculum fidelity.
  • Apply father engagement strategies grounded in trauma-informed practice, cross-cultural facilitation, parent leadership, and strengths-based family support.
  • Support facilitator observation, coaching, feedback, and ongoing skill development.
  • Support the appropriate use of screening and assessment tools, including the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ), as directed.

Training and Technical Assistance

  • Collaborate with the Parenting Education Manager and FNC’s Training and Technical Assistance team to plan, develop, adapt, and facilitate fatherhood-focused trainings, workshops, and professional learning opportunities.
  • Provide training and implementation support to community partners, providers, and organizations delivering or seeking to strengthen father engagement services.
  • Support the development of fatherhood-related training materials, facilitation tools, and learning resources.
  • Participate in learning communities, statewide meetings, conferences, and professionaldevelopment opportunities as assigned.
  • Help strengthen FNC’s position as a leader in father engagement, fatherhood practice, and evidence-informed parenting education.

Father Engagement, Outreach, and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with fathers, father figures, community partners, and providers across Massachusetts.
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships that expand access to fatherhood programming and services.
  • Support outreach strategies that engage fathers who may face barriers to participation, including work schedules, transportation challenges, language access needs, or prior system involvement.
  • Represent FNC in community meetings, coalition activities, partnership conversations, and public-facing events as assigned.
  • Create or support father-friendly messaging, materials, and welcoming program environments.

Family Support and Participant Experience

  • Connect fathers and father figures to parenting education, family support services, and community resources.
  • Promote positive father-child relationships, caregiver confidence, family stability, and healthy child development.
  • Tailor engagement approaches to the needs, goals, and lived experiences of participating fathers.
  • Maintain timely and clear communication with participants regarding schedules, expectations, program updates, and available supports.
  • Foster a respectful, strengths-based, culturally responsive, and inclusive participant experience.

Evaluation, Documentation, and Continuous Improvement

  • Track attendance, participation, referrals, satisfaction, and other required program data.
  • Complete timely and accurate data entry, recordkeeping, and reporting.
  • Enter, update, and maintain program and participant information in Salesforce and other approved data systems.
  • Collect participant feedback and share insights with the Parenting Education Manager and relevant team members.
  • Use data and feedback to identify opportunities to strengthen program quality, engagement, participation, and retention.
  • Contribute to a culture of learning, reflection, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

  • Associate degree in human services, early childhood education, social work, public health, education, community development, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • At least five years of experience in family support, community outreach, parenting education, fatherhood programming, youth development, or a related field.
  • Nurturing Fathers’ Program™ Facilitator Training is required at hire or must be completed within six months of employment.
  • Experience facilitating small and large groups, workshops, trainings, or community-based learning opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, cross-cultural facilitation, parent leadership, and strengths-based family engagement.
  • Strong communication, organization, group facilitation, relationship-building, and partnership-development skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a mission-driven, teambased environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, family-centered practice, and continuous improvement.
  • Must successfully complete required CORI/SORI and other applicable background checks.

Preferred

  • Nurturing Parenting® Program Facilitator Training.
  • Nationally Recognized Nurturing Parenting Programs® Trainer/Consultant status is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with fathers, men, caregivers, and diverse families strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting professional learning, provider training, or technical assistance.
  • Familiarity with the Nurturing Fathers’ Program™ and/or the Nurturing Parenting® Program is strongly preferred.
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, Mental Health First Aid, and father engagement.
  • Experience using screening and assessment tools, including the Ages & Stages Questionnaires® (ASQ), ASQ-3 and/or ASQ:SE-2.
  • Experience entering and maintaining information in Salesforce or a similar database.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or may be required within a designated period after hire, depending on site and program requirements.
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, or another language commonly spoken by families served by FNC.
