Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts (FNC) is excited to announce an important evolution in its leadership. As the organization continues to grow and deepen its impact across Greater Boston and the Commonwealth, FNC is transitioning to a Co-Executive Director model, a collaborative structure that strengthens our foundation while we thoughtfully plan the organization’s next phase.
Since 2022, Emma Tobin has served as Executive Director, guiding FNC through a transformative period of growth. Under Emma’s leadership, FNC has expanded its geographic footprint, diversified programming to reach new audiences, and doubled its annual operating budget. Her strategic vision and commitment to equity have positioned FNC as a more resilient and impactful organization.
To build on this momentum, Carol Torres joins FNC as Co-Executive Director for Operations. In this role, Carol will lead operations, internal strategy, and infrastructure development, ensuring that programs, people, and partnerships are supported by strong, equitable systems rooted in belonging, accountability, and care.
Carol is a mission-driven executive leader with more than 20 years of experience guiding organizations and community initiatives that advance equity and strengthen systems for children, youth, and families. She began her career working directly with young people and families in community and clinical settings, experiences that shaped her enduring commitment to prevention, family engagement, and systems that honor both people and outcomes.
Over the past two decades, Carol has built and led high-impact initiatives in youth leadership, workforce development, and family strengthening. As a senior executive, she has overseen strategic planning, program design, professional development, and culture-change efforts in both local and national organizations. Her leadership is grounded in warmth, inclusion, and shared purpose, and she is known for creating collaborative environments that drive measurable results.
In addition to her executive leadership, Carol teaches leadership and communication at Nichols College and holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Leadership and Philanthropy from Bay Path University.
Shared Leadership for FNC’s Next Chapter
Under this new structure:
- Carol Torres, Co-Executive Director for Operations, will lead internal strategy, infrastructure, and day-to-day operations.
- Emma Tobin, Co-Executive Director for Advancement, will lead external strategy and organizational growth.
Together, Carol and Emma will co-lead FNC during this transitional period, ensuring the organization remains centered in its mission while positioning FNC for sustainable, values-driven expansion. This interim model allows FNC to strengthen its leadership and organizational systems while the board and senior team plan for the organization’s long-term structure.
This shared leadership approach reflects FNC’s core values of collaboration, equity, and care, and enables the organization to continue serving families and communities with strength and clarity while planning for what comes next.
We are confident this co-executive structure will strengthen FNC today and lay the groundwork for a vibrant, nurturing future. Please join us in celebrating the leadership of Carol Torres and Emma Tobin as they embark on this exciting next chapter together.
With gratitude,
The Family Nurturing Center of Massachusetts Team
